Miami, Estados Unidos- Una depresión en el Caribe se convirtió este jueves en la tormenta tropical Ida, que amenaza con convertirse en un huracán durante el fin de semana, informó el Centro Nacional de Huracanes (NHC) de Estados Unidos.

 

 

El ciclón se encuentra a unos 205 km al sureste de la isla de Gran Caimán, precisó el organismo en su último boletín.

 

Ida alcanzará la fuerza de un huracán cuando se acerque al oeste de Cuba o al sureste del golfo de México el viernes, de acuerdo con las previsiones del centro meteorológico.

 

La tormenta tropical se desplaza hacia el noroeste a unos 22 km/h, con vientos máximos sostenidos de cerca de 65 km/h, y mantendrá ese rumbo durante los próximos días.

 

 

Pasará cerca o sobre las Islas Caimán este jueves por la noche, según la trayectoria pronosticada por el NHC, con sede en Miami.

 

Luego se aproximará a la Isla de la Juventud y el oeste de Cuba el viernes, antes de desplazarse por el sureste y el centro del golfo de México el viernes por la noche y el sábado.

 

El domingo podría alcanzar las costas estadounidenses, en el norte del golfo de México, con una fuerza cercana a la de un huracán mayor.

 

 

Según la escala Saffir-Simpson, que clasifica los ciclones tropicales según su intensidad, los huracanes mayores son los de categoría 3 o superior, es decir, aquellos que tienen vientos máximos de 178 km/h o más.

 

El gobierno cubano emitió una alerta de tormenta tropical para las provincias de Matanzas, Mayabeque, La Habana, Artemisa, Pinar del Río y el municipio especial de Isla de la Juventud, indicó el NHC.

 

Las autoridades de las Islas Caimán hicieron lo mismo para todo su territorio.
