SANTO DOMINGO. Los Gobiernos de República Dominicana y Reino Unido firmaron este jueves un Memorándum de Entendimiento para establecer los parámetros preliminares para la futura cooperación entre ambos países, incluyendo la creación de vínculos comerciales y la facilitación de apoyo financiero.
El protocolo fue rubricado por el ministro de la Presidencia, Joel Santos Echavarría, en representación del Gobierno dominicano y por el Secretario de Estado de su Majestad británica, a través del Departamento de Garantía de Créditos a la Exportación que opera como UK Export Finance (UKEF), Vomic Shah, con la presencia del embajador británico en el país, Mockbul Ali.
Al encabezar el acto en el Salón Verde del Palacio Nacional, el ministro de la Presidencia Joel Santos manifestó que el acuerdo fue posible gracias a la confianza desarrollada entre ambos países y por la fortaleza que tiene la economía dominicana.
“Una economía que creció el año pasado 4.9% y 7.2% el año anterior y mantiene una gran estabilidad que está siendo reflejada por los principales calificadores de riesgo que en medio de este proceso han realizado revisiones positivas a nuestra economía”, expresó.

Manifestó que la colaboración internacional y en esta ocasión la relación con Reino Unido es otro ejemplo de cómo puede la República Dominicana estratégicamente fortalecer las infraestructuras y fortalecer los aspectos sociales que son dos objetivos principales del plan de Gobierno del presidente Luis Abinader.
Además, el ministro, valoró el incremento de la línea de crédito por el Gobierno de Reino Unido tras indicar que se debe a la confianza y las relaciones bilaterales entre ambas naciones que datan del siglo XIX y que cada vez se fortalecen.
“En nombre del Excelentísimo Señor presidente de la República, señor Luis Abinader, extendemos nuestro más cordial agradecimiento al Gobierno de Reino Unido, por la confianza que depositan en el Gobierno dominicano para el financiamiento de obras de desarrollo que irán en beneficio de los dominicanos”, dijo el ministro.
*Proyectos de agua, salud pública, transporte, energía y seguridad*
El Memorándum abarcará proyectos que serán ejecutados por instituciones como los ministerios de Defensa, Agricultura, Salud Pública y Energía y Minas, así como por el Instituto Nacional de Aguas Potables y Alcantarillados (Inapa), la Corporación del Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Santo Domingo (Caasd), el Instituto Nacional de Recursos Hidráulicos (Indrhi) y la Oficina Metropolitana de Servicios de Autobuses (OMSA).
“Inapa tendrá bajo su responsabilidad la ejecución de ocho proyectos de desarrollo, tales como el Saneamiento Universal de Ciudades Turísticas y Costeras y la construcción de Acueducto Múltiple Región Este”, señaló el ministro.
Del mismo modo, indicó, además, que la Caasd realizará un Estudio de Impacto Social, Saneamiento y Canalización de aguas residuales de las 92 cañadas de los barrios del Gran Santo Domingo, el diseño de la propuesta de gestión de residuos sólidos en comunidades impactadas, así como el diseño de aguas residuales de las cañadas del Gran Santo Domingo.
También el ministro expuso que el convenio contiene 15 proyectos de desarrollo que forman parte de este acuerdo entre ambas naciones, y que tiene previsto comenzar a ejecutarse en el 2024.
El ministro Santos recordó que tras la reunión el pasado 6 de junio entre el presidente Luis Abinader y el embajador británico para la República Dominicana, Mockbul Ali, que informaron la ampliación de la línea de crédito al país a 4,000 millones de libras esterlinas por parte del Gobierno de Reino Unido por la confianza en la economía dominicana.
“Hoy, 16 días después, nos volvemos a reunir para firmar este Memorándum de Entendimiento, que dará acceso a la República Dominicana a recursos para la ejecución de proyectos estratégicos de infraestructuras en los sectores agua, salud pública, transporte, energía y seguridad”, puntualizó.

De su lado el jefe de Origen de UK Export Finance (UKEF), Vomic Shah, reiteró su compromiso con ser el aliado de elección de la República Dominicana y trabajar para traer cambio transformativo al país.
El jefe de Origen de UK Export Finance (UKEF), dijo que la firma de este Memorándum de Entendimiento es un gran ejemplo de lo que ambos países pueden lograr juntos y que se manifestará en el crecimiento de las relaciones bilaterales entre el Reino Unido y la República Dominicana.
Vomic Shah, agradeció al presidente Luis Abinader en nombre de UK Export Finance el interés y la confianza que el gobierno dominicano ha colocado en Reino Unido.
Durante la firma estuvieron presentes, el ministro de Salud Pública, Daniel Rivera; el viceministro para las Comunidades Dominicanas en el Exterior, Carlos De la Mota, así como funcionarios y representantes de la Embajada de Reino Unido en el país.
