RD se clasifica a los Juegos Olímpicos

República Dominicana ejerció su condición de potencia en el deporte rey y se clasificó a los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio, al disponer por 8-5 sobre Venezuela en el estadio Hermanos Serdán.

 

El equipo nacional ganó el Clasificatorio Olímpico de Puebla de manera invicta (3-0) y avanzó a la máxima cita olímpica por primera vez desde Barcelona 1992. Antes, en 1984, jugaron en la edición de Los Ángeles, aunque en aquella ocasión el béisbol fue un deporte de exhibición.

Con corredores en tercera y segunda, Ramón Torres pegó un machucón alto que no pudo manejar el campocorto Engel Vielma y colocó la pizarra 4-3. Chirinos le permitió un hit al central a Charlie Valerio que dio la quinta para los ganadores.

 

Danny Rondón entró en relevo y de inmediato fue castigado por un cañonazo al central de Gustavo Núñez, con el cual Dominicana agregó dos más. El juego se puso 8-3 con un elevado de sacrificio de Emilio Bonifacio, que remolcó a Núñez desde la tercera.

 

Tras la salida del abridor Radhamés Liz, cuya labor fue de apenas 2.2 entradas de tres carreras, Jhan Mariñez (0.2) y Darío Álvarez (1.0) no concedieron libertades. Luis Felipe Castillo fue el siguiente lanzador y pudo cubrir 2.2 capítulos, aunque lo tocaron con una vuelta en el séptimo por sencillo productor de Alexander Palma al izquierdo.

 

Marcos Diplán tiró el octavo sin permitir anotación, ayudado por la espectacular defensa de Julio Rodríguez en el prado derecho. Con hombre en primera, Diego Rincones pegó una línea que Rodríguez atrapó al lanzarse de cabeza hacia su derecha, siendo la mejor jugada del torneo.

 

Jairo Asencio entró a lanzar el noveno y aunque permitió una carrera, sentenció el partido al retirar a Alexander Palma con rodado por segunda. Tras caer el último out, el equipo nacional de República Dominicana estremeció el “Nido Verde” con una jubilosa celebración entre brincos, lágrimas y abrazos.

 

La victoria fue para Castillo, en labor que incluyó dos ponches y ningún boleto. El perdedor fue Chirinos, tras permitir cuatro carreras limpias y no retirar a ningún bateador.
