El profesor John Kelly Martínez, principal acusado en la muerte de la adolescente Esmeralda Richiez, está casado con otra docente y tiene dos hijos, uno de los cuales estudia en el mismo politécnico en el laboraba su padre.

Martínez ingresó al sistema educativo público luego de aprobar el Concurso de Oposición Docente y estaba tomando la inducción para nuevos maestros. Los maestros de nuevo ingreso están a prueba por un año.

Las autoridades del centro educativo habían tenido conocimiento una semana antes de que el profesor John Kelly Martínez, de 35 años, acosaba a la adolescente Esmeralda Richiez, de 16 años. Sin embargo, no se tomaron las medidas que hubiesen podido evitar la tragedia.

Los psicólogos de la Regional 12 del Ministerio de Educación están dando apoyo a los familiares de la víctima, a la familia del imputado y también a los parientes de las adolescentes que la acompañaban el pasado domingo cuando ocurrió la tragedia.

El ministro de Educación, Ángel Hernández, dijo estar “profundamente avergonzado” por la muerte de la joven 16 de años, que según el informe preliminar del Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Forenses (Inacif), murió desangrada en su casa en la provincia La Altagracia tras una ser violada por el profesor Martínez, según el Ministerio Público.

“Me siento profundamente avergonzado por la muerte de Esmeralda Richiez, cuyos padres confiaron su educación a la escuela pública. Un docente abusó de ella y provocó su muerte, un hecho que nunca debió ocurrir. La justicia que haga su trabajo”, expresó.
