Obispo en Barahona pide presos enfermos los envíen a sus casas

El obispo de la Diócesis de Barahona, monseñor Andrés Napoleón Romero Cárdenas, se suma a las voces que entienden que se deben adoptar medidas de solución al hacinamiento, las condiciones infrahumanas en que viven las personas en las distintas cárceles.

Romero Cárdenas, dijo que algunos reos pueden ser puestos en libertad, observando las leyes penitenciarias vigentes.

En un sentido de caridad, incluso es probable que algunas personas de esas estén a punto de cumplir sus condenas y que ya están en situaciones críticas, que están muy enfermas, que tal vez no ofrecen ningún peligro para la sociedad pienso que, en esos casos, si se organiza un buen proceso, siempre con el respeto de las víctimas, esas personas pueden ser cuidadas en sus casas”, expuso Romero Cárdenas.

El prelado consideró que desde una perspectiva humana y con un proceso bien llevado, es posible que esas personas que guardan prisión puedan ser excarceladas para evitar que mueran en las condiciones infrahumanas en que se encuentran en el sistema carcelario dominicano.

“Por encima de todo, pese a las cosas malas que hicieron, está la dignidad del ser humano, sobre todo, si ya no representan peligro alguno para la sociedad, simplemente cumplen el castigo por el delito cometido, pueden ser enviados a sus residencias si está frente a una enfermedad ya terminal”, expuso el dignatario católico.

Romero Cárdenas explicó que para ello debe encontrarse una forma correcta, desde el punto de vista de la ley que permita a los responsables del sistema penitenciario darles seguimiento a estas personas, aunque estén en sus casas.

Afirmó que si una persona que está privada de libertad y purga una condena por la comisión de algún delito y se está enferma, debe enviarse a sus casas, que a lo mejor sería su última oportunidad de sus vidas, sobre todo, si no representan peligro, lo que definió como “caridad de la buena”.

Dijo que esas cárceles se construyeron para una población que ya se “duplicó” y que en algunos casos hasta se “triplicó”, tras recordar que hace 8 años que llegó a la diócesis y que de inmediato escuchó hablar de la construcción de las cárceles de Pedernales y Barahona, pero no hay nada.

“No tengo las estadísticas exactas de la cantidad de enfermos que hay ni de envejecientes, pero los hay y no reciben las condiciones de salubridad que requieren. No olvidemos que, aunque hayan delinquido, son hijos de Dios”, expuso el obispo Romero Cárdenas.
