Ascienden a 14 los muertos al desplomarse un teleférico en Italia

 

El teleférico cubría el recorrido desde el lago Maggiore hasta la montaña de Mottarone cuando, por causas que se investigan, el cable que lo sustentaba se ha partido

 

La caída de una cabina de teleférico provocó este domingo la muerte de 14 personas en Stresa, localidad de la región italiana del Piamonte (noroeste) a orillas del lago Maggiore, según los servicios de rescate.

 

Después de ofrecer un «balance definitivo» de 13 muertos, los servicios de rescate anunciaron poco después que uno de los dos menores heridos graves, un niño de nueve años, no pudo sobreponerse de sus heridas y falleció.

 

Según el diario Il Corriere della Sera, hay turistas alemanes entre las víctimas. La información no fue confirmada de fuente oficial. El presidente italiano, Sergio Mattarella, y el primer ministro, Mario Draghi, expresaron su «profundo dolor.

 

Al menos seis de las víctimas son israelíes (cinco muertos y uno más que resultó gravemente herido, un niño) en el accidente, según ha comunicado este domingo por la noche el ministerio israelí de Exteriores. Los seis eran miembros de una misma familia, informa Sal Emergui.

El accidente, provocado aparentemente por la rotura de un cable de sujeción de la cabina, se produjo en torno a las 13.00 horas locales y en uno de los puntos más altos del teleférico, mientras los equipos de rescate de montaña y los bomberos se encuentran en la zona, según informan medios italianos.

 

El accidente tuvo lugar a 300 metros de la estación de llegada, en Maottarone, y a 1.490 metros de altitud, cuando cedió el cable y la cabina se estrelló contra un bosque.

 

El teleférico había sido cerrado en 2014, completamente renovado y vuelto a reabrir en 2016. Tras los meses de confinamiento por la pandemia, había reabierto sus puertas el pasado 24 de abril
