Congresista norteamericano Adriano Espaillat solicita retirar alerta emitida por la Embajada de EE. UU. en RD.

_Dice que no hay evidencias de maltratos, por lo que califica de infundada la alerta y expresa rotundo rechazo._

 

Santo Domingo. – El congresista de Nueva York por el distrito 13, Adriano Espaillat, solicitó este miércoles retirar de inmediato el comunicado “Alerta: Reforzamiento en curso de migración en República Dominicana” emitido por la Embajada de Estados Unidos de América en el país, el pasado sábado 19 de noviembre, la cual calificó de infundada.

Espaillat expresó su rechazo rotundo a la medida y dijo que, pese a que solicitó evidencias verificables, palpables, de las alegaciones maliciosas que se han distribuidos con esta alerta al Departamento de Estado y al encargado de Negocios de la Embajada en República Dominicana, Robert W. Thomas, no ha recibido ninguna.

 

El congresista norteamericano conversó con periodistas que cubren la fuente del Palacio Nacional al termino de un encuentro privado con el presidente Luis Abinader, en el que además participó el congresista de Texas, Vicente González.

“Y vengo aquí porque me opongo rotundamente a la alerta infundada puesta en circulación por el Departamento de Estado y por la embajada de mi país, los Estados Unidos, aquí en República Dominicana”, manifestó.

 

Explicó que se había reusado a hablar del tema, precisamente porque quería edificarse primero y se trata de un aspecto que naturalmente pueden impactar al país en materia de turismo y otras cosas.

 

“Hasta ahora no han podido brindarme ninguna evidencia que pueda sustentar ese tipo de alerta, de manera que yo le pedido categóricamente que tumben la alerta y junto a otros congresistas vamos a pedir una investigación profunda de parte del congreso y el gobierno norteamericano, que nos diga a nosotros entonces porque subieron la alerta, cuáles son las razones, ya que tanto la embajada como el Departamento de Estado se reúsa hasta ahora brindarnos evidencias”, insistió el congresista Espaillat.

 

Advirtió que el sistema de ley tiene que estar basado fundamentalmente en las evidencias y que nadie puede acusar a otra persona anónimamente sin presentar pruebas y hasta ahora, naturalmente no la han presentado.

 

“De manera que yo le pido formalmente que tumben la alerta y vamos a pedir una investigación formal para ver llegar a la profundidad de porque se subió esa alerta que naturalmente puede afectar a la República Dominicana”, enfatizó.

 

El congresista norteamericano, expresó, además, que la República Dominicana está en todo derecho de proteger su frontera frente a un caos violento dirigido por pandillas en Haití, situación que impulsó a que el Consejo de Seguridad de la Naciones Unidas en días pasados endureciera las sanciones en contra de los pandilleros.

 

“Yo mismo firmé una carta en Washington junto a otro congresista pidiéndole que se le aplique la Ley Magnitsky a los pandilleros y cualquier otro político o empresario que esté vinculado a ello. De manera que la República Dominicana, está en todo derecho de hacer todo lo posible para que esa ola de violencia no cruce la frontera”, señaló.

 

Dijo que su presencia en el país, la realizó como dominicano-americano, en un gesto de solidaridad con la República Dominicana en un momento difícil, donde hay una avalancha de críticas y de señalamientos de las cuales, hasta ahora, no tiene ninguna evidencia de porqué surgieron.

 

“Está conmigo el congresista Vicente González de Texas, y espero que esto se puede aclarar lo más rápido posible y ya he recibido muchas llamadas de preocupaciones de mis constituyentes, no sólo dominicanos, y otros también, amigos de los dominicanos que sienten que esta actitud fue muy agresiva en contra de la República Dominicana”, reveló Espaillat.

 

Con respecto al tiempo de la solicitud, explicó que iniciarán un proceso de investigación el cual tomará tiempo.

 

Manifestó que la República Dominicana es un país caracterizado por la amistad, con actitud hospitalaria, donde a todo el mundo se le trata bien, razón por cuál vienen millones de turistas anualmente a visitar sus playas, ríos y montañas.

 

De igual forma, el congresista González explicó que acompañó a su homólogo Espaillat, al encuentro con el presidente Abinader, el cual destacó fue productivo.

 

González indicó que tiene la misma preocupación que el congresista Espaillat, “que no se haga una alerta, sino una investigación profunda”.
