Santo Domingo. – El presidente del Banco Mundial (BM), David Malpass, en su visita oficial, al país se reunió este lunes con el presidente Luis Abinader lo que evidencia la confianza que los organismos internacionales tienen en el Gobierno dominicano por su excelente desempeño económico.
Se trata de la primera vez que un presidente del Banco Mundial visita la República Dominicana.
Con esta visita el Banco Mundial redobla los esfuerzos y amplía su cartera de apoyo al país en temas de vital importancia como agua, salud, gestión de residuos, el ordenamiento territorial y la modernización de la administración pública.
En el productivo encuentro, participaron, además, la vicepresidenta Raquel Peña; los ministros de Economía, Pavel Isa Contreras; de Hacienda José Vicente; de la Presidencia, Joel Santos; Administrativo de la Presidencia, José Ignacio Paliza; de Relaciones Exteriores, Roberto Álvarez; de Medio Ambiente y Recurso Naturales, Miguel Ceara Hatton; de Industria, Comercio y Mipymes, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó.
También, por el Banco Mundial, el vicepresidente para América Latina y el Caribe, Carlos Felipe Jaramillo; el director para Centroamérica y República Dominicana, Michel Kerf; el Gerente de país, Ronke Ogunsulire; el director ejecutivo para República Dominicana, Erivaldo Gomes; la representante residente del Banco Mundial en el país, Alexandra Valerio y la representante residente de la Corporación Financiera Internacional, Carolina Cárdenas.
En 2022 el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) del país alcanzó un notable crecimiento anual del 4.9%, superior al promedio de América Latina.
La República Dominicana ha superado los desafíos post Covid-19 y también ha demostrado ser una economía que se prepara en la resiliencia al cambio climático con más equidad y frente shocks internacionales.
El presidente del Banco Mundial, Malpass, en su gira oficial, también visitó a Panamá.
