_Raquel Peña dio apertura a la Serie de Conferencias de Ciudades de Latinoamérica organizado por la Americas Society/Council of the Americas y la Vicepresidencia de la República Dominicana_.

Santo Domingo-. Al pronunciar las palabras de apertura de la Serie de Conferencias de Ciudades de Latinoamérica, la vicepresidenta de la República, Raquel Peña, aseguró que el país está preparado para ser un centro productivo, logístico y recreativo al servicio del mundo por su estratégica ubicación y cercanía con importantes destinos comerciales como Estados Unidos, así como por ser el territorio idóneo para el nearshoring, paso fundamental en la optimización de las cadenas de suministros.

“Hemos invertido en la ampliación y modernización de la infraestructura orientada a facilitar el comercio y participar más activamente en el intercambio global de bienes y servicios”, indicó la vicemandataria.

Peña precisó que con el objetivo de promover un clima de negocios como detonante de la competitividad, y desmantelar barreras a la inversión, el país cuenta con un marco legal compuesto por leyes, incentivos y acuerdos nacionales e internacionales enfocados en atraer, y proteger los capitales externos.

La funcionaria mencionó que el país busca elevar la eficiencia de la administración pública, a través de marcos normativos claros, oportunos y transparentes, que permitan la simplificación de los trámites y servicios, así como la mejora en la calidad de las regulaciones, a través de iniciativas como “Burocracia Cero”.

Dijo que en medio de un panorama mundial agitado e incierto, el país goza de estabilidad política y paz social, y que, en términos económicos, el país ha sido reconocido a nivel mundial por la rápida recuperación post pandemia, restaurando los empleos perdidos durante la crisis de salud y recobrando los sectores productivos más representativos, como el turismo.

“Me enorgullece decir que nuestro crecimiento económico, nuestra estabilidad sociopolítica y paz social, nuestras oportunidades de expansión, nuestra rica biodiversidad, nuestro clima cálido y agradable, así como nuestra mano de obra disponible, motivada, capacitada y con facilidades para actividades manuales de alta calidad, se han hecho visibles ante los ojos del mundo”, puntualizó Peña.

De lado, Susan Segal, Presidente y CEO del Americas Society/Council of the Americas, indicó que “el crecimiento de República Dominicana es una realidad que se ha hecho posible por la visión del presidente Luis Abinader y la vicepresidenta Raquel Peña. Esta visión incluye un rol importante y fundamental para el sector privado”.

Además, mencionó que “es muy claro que la República Dominicana está mirando hacia afuera y que existen muchas oportunidades de inversión extranjera y oportunidades donde el sector público y el privado pueden trabajar juntos”.

En la actividad también participaron los funcionarios del gobierno y ejecutivos de empresas multinacionales, entre ellos Víctor Bisonó, ministro de Industria, Comercio y Mipymes; Andrés Gluski, Presidente y CEO, de AES Corporation, y Rolando González-Bunster, Chairman y CEO, de InterEnergy Group.

Asimismo, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, director general de Aduanas; Andrew Martin, Presidente, América Latina, Pfizer; José Fernández, director regional de Ventas, Salesforce.

También, Samuel Pereyra Rojas, Administrador del Banco de Reservas; José Miguel González Cuadra, Presidente Ejecutivo, Centro Cuesta Nacional (CCN); Antonio Silveira, gerente de Infraestructura y Transformación Digital, CAF – Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina; Manuela Uribe, directora y gerente general del Caribe, Medtronic.

Sobre el evento

La Americas Society/Council of the Americas en colaboración con la Vicepresidencia de la República Dominicana, reunió por primera vez en Santo Domingo a funcionarios del Gobierno y ejecutivos del sector privado como parte de la Serie de Conferencias de Ciudades de Latinoamérica. El evento de media jornada señaló oportunidades de inversión en el país como sede logística en la región, además de tratar temas de comercio, energía y tecnología, entre otros.

Bajo el lema de “República Dominicana: Creando una nueva visión de inversión sostenible”, el evento contó con las palabras del presidente, Luis Abinader, así como de la vicepresidenta de la República, Raquel Peña, además de la presidenta y CEO del Consejo de las Américas, Susan Segal.

En años recientes, el AS/COA ha visitado las ciudades de Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima, Medellín, Ciudad de México, Monterrey, entre otros. Después de Santo Domingo, los siguientes eventos del 2023 se realizarán en la Ciudad de México, Brasilia, Santiago de Chile, Bogotá y Buenos Aires.

La Americas Society (AS) es el principal foro dedicado a la educación, el debate y el diálogo en las Américas. Su misión es fomentar la comprensión de los problemas políticos, sociales y económicos contemporáneos que enfrentan América Latina, el Caribe y Canadá, y aumentar la conciencia pública y la apreciación de la diversa herencia cultural de las Américas y la importancia de la relación interamericana.
