Haití, paralizado por huelga del transporte y escenario de masivas protestas.

La huelga de tres días convocada en Haití por los sindicatos del transporte público en contra del aumento del precio de los combustibles y que concluye hoy paralizó de nuevo Puerto Príncipe y otras ciudades, convertidas en escenario de masivas manifestaciones.

Pero no solo el transporte está paralizado en Haití desde el lunes pasado, sino también el resto de las actividades, con las instituciones públicas y las empresas privadas cerradas, lo que ha convertido a Puerto Príncipe en una ciudad muerta.

 

MULTITUDINARIAS MANIFESTACIONES CONTRA EL GOBIERNO

 

Aunque estos tres días de huelga acaban hoy, para el jueves y el viernes están previstas manifestaciones en todo el país, según el calendario anunciado por los sindicatos del transporte.

Ya este miércoles miles de personas salieron a las calles en Puerto Príncipe y otras ciudades como Cabo Haitiano y Gonaïves para exigir la dimisión del primer ministro haitiano, Ariel Henry, a quien consideran incapaz de sacar al país de la crisis política sin precedentes en la que está sumido desde el asesinato en julio de 2021 del presidente Jovenel Moise.

 

«¿Quién es Ariel Henry para no exigir su dimisión?», coreaban los manifestantes en Cabo Haitiano, la segunda ciudad de Haití, donde al menos un supermercado fue saqueado durante una protesta que la Policía Nacional disolvió con gases lacrimógenos.

 

En Gonaïves, según la prensa local, encabezó la marcha el antiguo líder rebelde de los movimientos antigubernamentales de 2004 Wilfort Ferdinand alias «T-Will», rodeado de sus partidarios.

 

Mientras, en Puerto Príncipe, la Policía Nacional lanzó gases lacrimógenos y efectuó disparos al aire para poner fin a la protesta.

 

Ante ello, los motociclistas, enfadados, levantaron barricadas con neumáticos en varias zonas de la ciudad y les prendieron fuego.

 

EL TRANSPORTE SIN GASOLINA Y LOS HOSPITALES SIN COMBUSTIBLE

Aunque hace más de una semana que Henry se comprometió a que habría de nuevo gasolina en los surtidores, esta sigue sin llegar debido al bloqueo de la principal terminal de la capital por parte del poderoso líder de la banda G9, el expolicía Jimmy Cherisier alias «Barbecue», que está tomando como rehén la región metropolitana ante la total indiferencia de las autoridades.

 

Una indiferencia que llega al punto de que el ministro haitiano de Asuntos Exteriores, Jean Victor Généus, aseguró recientemente ante el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU que «la situación está globalmente bajo control en Haití».

 

Además, varios hospitales importantes de Puerto Príncipe y de algunas otras ciudades están paralizados debido a la escasez de combustible que sufre desde hace más de tres meses el país más pobre de América.

 

«La actual crisis del combustible en el país nos ha obligado a poner en marcha un plan de emergencia con una reducción de nuestro personal y de los servicios disponibles, en detrimento de nuestros pacientes», anuncia el Hospital Bernard Mevs en una nota.

 

Este centro sanitario espera «no llegar al cierre total» y, para ello, pide ayuda a todo el mundo, en especial a los proveedores de combustible.

 

También el hospital de la Universidad Estatal de Haití funciona a ritmo lento. Los pacientes se encuentran en condiciones deplorables, con muy pocos médicos para atenderles y en medio de un olor nauseabundo que lo impregna todo.

 

Si la situación persiste, la paralización que sufre la sanidad puede extenderse a otros sectores, en vísperas de que comience el curso escolar, cuya apertura se retrasó ante la situación reinante.

 

 

Esta escasez de carburante ha ido acompañada de un incremento abismal del precio de los combustibles en el mercado informal y también de los productos de primera necesidad, lo que ha encarecido aún más el coste de la vida.

 

Todo ello acompañado de una violencia que ha llevado a la embajada de Estados Unidos a aconsejar a sus ciudadanos abandonar Haití.
