Gobierno comenzará en Samaná plan renovación de plantaciones de coco.

Samana RD.-El Fondo Especial para el Desarrollo Agropecuario (FEDA) comenzará en enero en Samaná el Plan Relanzamiento del Subsector Coco con 300 productores de diferentes zonas del país que recibirán 150 mil de esas plantas de las variedades Enano Brasileño, Malayo y del Porte Alto del Atlántico, para la renovación de viejas plantaciones y el inicio de nuevas siembras en distintas comunidades, con énfasis en las afectadas por el huracán Fiona.

 

El anuncio lo hizo el director del FEDA, Hecmilio Galván, a propósito de informar sobre un recorrido realizado por la provincia de Samaná, en donde entregó 4 mil plantas de esa nuez a productores, y donde se organizó una capacitación que ejecutaron técnicos del FEDA sobre el cultivo de coco.

Galván informó que se están adquiriendo 150 mil plantas de coco de las variedades Enano Brasileño, Malayo y de Porte Alto del Atlántico para productores de Samaná, Hato Mayor, Nagua, El Seibo e Higüey y de otras zonas para iniciar el Plan del Subsector Coco, que incluirá apoyo a la producción al consumo y la industrialización.

Las donaciones de las plantas serán el inicio del Plan de Relanzamiento del Subsector Coco de República Dominicana, el cual fue elaborado por el FEDA y para el cual se han realizado más de 50 capacitaciones en todo el país, con la participación de 2,500 productores e interesados.

Las 150 mil plantas de coco certificadas se unirán a las mas de 40 mil plantas ya distribuidas por el FEDA como motivación del plan en diferentes provincias del país.

Durante el recorrido por Samaná, el funcionario también visitó las asociaciones de Mujeres Hacia el Futuro de La Pascuala y de Mujeres Acción de Samaná, con quienes el FEDA elaborará y financiará dos proyectos de apoyo para la producción de aceite de coco y de dulce de coco, respectivamente, los cuales están en fase de formulación.

 

Galván destacó la importancia del coco y dijo que de esa nuez se aprovecha todo: su agua, la leche, la masa, la jícara y las fibras, además se saca aceite, se fabrican dulces y también aporta belleza al paisaje de las áreas turísticas. Recordó que para ser beneficiario de la donación de esas variedades de coco, los productores deberán haber participado en los talleres de capacitación que imparten técnicos del FEDA.

Señaló que la demanda de coco y sus subproductos en el mundo está insatisfecha y crece ocho veces más que la oferta, por lo que la producción de esa fruta y derivados es una oportunidad estratégica para el país.

 

En el recorrido, el funcionario se hizo acompañar por Demetrio Vicente, del Ministerio de Salud Pública y dirigente social de Samaná, el diputado Ramón Aníbal Olea, y el regidor Carlos Payano, entre otras personalidades de Samaná.
