Equidermio Balbuena, un hombre que fue director de la junta distrital de Las Galeras, en Samaná, fue arrestado tras ser pedido en extradición por los Estados Unidos.
Balbuena es acusado por Estados Unidos de narcotráfico y fue el director de la junta distrital entre los años 2010 y 2016, electo por el Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD).
Está detenido en la Dirección Nacional de Control de Drogas. La solicitud de extradición fue presentada ante el Departamento de Extradición de la Procuraduría General de la República, que solicitó la orden de arresto a los jueces de la Segunda Sala Penal de la Suprema Corte de Justicia.

Equidermio Balbuena será presentado en las próximas horas ante la Segunda Sala Penal de la Suprema Corte de Justicia, que conoce su proceso de solicitud de extradición y tendrá la oportunidad de optar por el proceso simplificado, donde podría aceptar voluntariamente ir a los Estados Unidos a hacerle frente al caso o, por el contrario oponerse y dejar la decisión a los jueces de la Suprema.
Asimismo, la Suprema está apoderada de una solicitud de extradición en contra de Elías Mikely Sánchez Martínez y Joan Morales Nolasco, reclamados por las autoridades de Estados Unidos, así como de Odalkis Rodriguez Luna, quien es reclamado por las autoridades de Argentina.
Para mañana miércoles los jueces de la Segunda Sala Penal de la Suprema conocerán a las 9:00 de la mañana el pedido de extradición de Morales Nolasco.
