EEUU ofrece apoyo al país para recuperar bienes robados al Estado

A los Estados Unidos le in­teresa trabajar en los es­fuerzos legislativos para crear un sistema de extin­ción de dominio que permi­ta al gobierno dominicano recuperar los bienes y ri­quezas “que los criminales y funcionarios corruptos han robado al Estado”.

Eso lo dijo Robert Thomas, encargado de negocios de la embajada estadouniden­se en República Dominica­na, en un acto celebrado ayer en el Palacio Nacional, en presencia del presidente Luis Abinader.

“Deseamos trabajar con us­tedes en el avance de los esfuerzos legislativos para crear un sistema de extin­ción de dominio que permi­ta a su gobierno recuperar los bienes y riquezas que los criminales y funciona­rios corruptos han robado al Estado y al pueblo domi­nicano”, dijo el funcionario de alto nivel del gobierno de Estados Unidos.

“Sé que esto es una priori­dad de ustedes y después de varios intentos fallidos en el pasado creemos que la aprobación de esta legis­lación podría ser un logro importante para el pueblo dominicano y apoyaremos los esfuerzos de su gobierno para desarrollar esta impor­tante herramienta”, indicó Thomas.

El gobierno de Estados Uni­dos dijo esperar discutir las formas en que podían trabajar con la Cámara de Cuentas para mejorar su papel como entidad de su­pervisión independiente, una función que calificó co­mo “fundamental para las sociedades transparentes y democráticas”.

Y agrega: “Su Gobierno ha dado un paso importante ha­cia ese objetivo gracias al lo­gro histórico de un proce­so de selección transparente (de la Cámara de Cuentas)”

Asimismo apunta que Es­tados Unidos también espe­ra “apoyar en los esfuerzos de reforma adicionales que ayuden a alcanzar los obje­tivos de los nuevos miem­bros de la dirección de este importante mecanismo”.
