República Dominicana será sede de la LVI Reunión de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de los países miembros del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SICA).

_Los mandatarios se reunirán en la ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros para abordar importantes temas de la agenda regional y la institucionalidad del sistema_

 

Santo Domingo de Guzmán, República Dominicana. El ministro administrativo de la Presidencia, José Ignacio Paliza informó que en el marco del ejercicio de la Presidencia Pro Tempore (PPT) del Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana (SICA) que actualmente ostenta República Dominicana, el próximo 9 de diciembre del presente año, el país será sede de la LVI Reunión de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de los países miembros del SICA, a celebrarse en la ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros.

Dijo que el Presidente Luis Abinader, acompañado del Canciller Roberto Álvarez, será el anfitrión de este importante encuentro que reunirá a los mandatarios, ministros de Relaciones Exteriores y Jefes de Delegación de los ocho países miembros del SICA y servirá de espacio para la discusión de importantes temas de la agenda regional y la institucionalidad del sistema.

 

En ese contexto, esta será la primera reunión ordinaria de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno en la que participará el recién nombrado Secretario General del SICA, señor Werner Isaac Vargas Torres, cuyo nombramiento fue logrado bajo el liderazgo de la PPT de República Dominicana en la reunión extraordinaria del 11 de agosto del presente año.

 

Paliza expresó que la ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros será el epicentro de este trascendental evento, siendo elegida de manera estratégica por su amplio desarrollo y avance, constituida como una de las provincias de referencia para toda la región.

 

“Como antesala a la reunión de los presidentes, el jueves 8 de diciembre del corriente se desarrollará la LXXXVIII Reunión del Consejo de Ministros de Relaciones Exteriores del SICA”, citó.

 

La Reunión de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno es el órgano supremo del SICA el cual se integra por mandatarios constitucionales de los Estados Miembros, se realiza ordinariamente cada semestre y extraordinariamente cuando así lo decidan.

“A este órgano le corresponde conocer de los asuntos de la región que requieran de sus decisiones en materia de democracia, desarrollo, libertad, paz y seguridad”, añadió.

 

El SICA es un mecanismo de integración regional conformado por República Dominicana, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panamá, El Salvador, Belice y Nicaragua.
