El presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, aprobará una declaración de zona de desastre sobre los territorios de Florida afectados por el huracán Ian, lo que permitirá aumentar la ayuda federal para paliar sus efectos, según prometió esta mañana al gobernador de dicho estado, Ron DeSantis.

La Casa Blanca informó de la llamada que Biden hizo a DeSantis para hablar de los pasos a dar en respuesta a los daños que está causando el huracán.

 

Entre dichos pasos anunció la declaración de desastre, y también explicó que la responsable de la Agencia Federal de Gestión de Emergencias (FEMA), Deanne Criswell, volverá a viajar mañana a Florida para supervisar la respuesta que se está dando y estudiar la ayuda adicional que sea necesaria.

«Por ahora, tenemos aprobación para Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pinellas y Sarasota», dijo DeSantis en una rueda de prensa sobre la conversación que sostuvo con el mandatario la mañana de este jueves. Esta declaración de desastre «permitirá que los ciudadanos de Florida busquen asistencia individual de FEMA», agregó el gobernador.

Tanto Biden como DeSantis, según la Casa Blanca, se comprometieron a seguir manteniendo el contacto y la coordinación para dar respuesta a este desastre.

 

El gobernador de Florida afirmó este jueves que el impacto de Ian en el suroeste del estado fue «histórico» y los daños causados también, e informó de dos muertes, de las que todavía falta saber si están vinculadas directamente al ciclón.

«Hemos tenido dos muertes no confirmadas, en el sentido de que no sabemos si están relacionadas con la tormenta. Nuestra suposición es que probablemente lo sean», dijo DeSantis en una rueda de prensa ofrecida en Tallahassee, la capital del estado.
