ONU reporta por lo menos 234 muertos o heridos por violencia pandillera en Haití entre 8 y 12 de julio.

Al menos 234 personas murieron o resultaron heridas entre el 8 y el 12 de julio como consecuencia de la violencia entre pandillas en Cité Soleil, la localidad más pobre del área metropolitana de Puerto Príncipe, en Haití, informó el sábado la ONU.

 

«La mayoría de las víctimas no están directamente vinculadas a las pandillas, sino que fueron blanco de los miembros de las pandillas y también hemos recibido nuevas denuncias de violencia sexual», indicó el portavoz del Alto Comisionado de la ONU para los Derechos Humanos, Jeremy Laurence.

La ONU indicó haber registrado 934 asesinatos, 684 heridos y 680 secuestros en el periodo comprendido entre enero y finales de junio de 2022.

 

Un informe anterior de la Red Nacional de Defensa de los Derechos Humanos, una oenegé, cifraba el número de muertos en 89, con 74 heridos y 16 desaparecidos.

 

«Estamos profundamente preocupados por el empeoramiento de la violencia en Puerto Príncipe y el aumento de las violaciones de derechos humanos cometidas contra la población local por bandas fuertemente armadas», indicó Laurence.

Desde el viernes, se oyen armas automáticas todo el día en Cité Soleil, la localidad más desfavorecida y densamente poblada del área metropolitana de Puerto Príncipe, donde se enfrentan dos facciones sin que intervenga la policía, que tiene escasos hombres y poco material.
